Can you recognise these brands without seeing their logos?

I've stripped the logos, names and obvious brand cues from eight recognisable brands and left one thing behind: their colours.

Without cheating and scrolling down, have agander at the image above and see how many you can guess. The majority of people i've asked usually nail about 6 or 7 at a push.

Colour can be more recognisable than your logo.

That's genuinely the interesting thing about colour and how important it is in branding.

The right colour palette can become so closely associated with a brand that you don't need the logo or even the name to know who it belongs to.

Colour helps people recognise brands quicker, create emotional associations and generally makes a visual identity look the dogs bollocks.

Think about how quickly you associate certain colours with brands you've seen thousands of times. That's not an accident. It's the result of consistent branding over time and repetition.

Brand colours need to do more than just look good.

Picking colours for your brand shouldn't just come down to personal taste, or what paint colour you decorated your downstairs toilet with.

They need to fit your brand identity, audience and positioning, while working consistently across all your touchpoints, website, social media, print and everything else your business puts out into this massive wide world.

Get it right and your colours alone can become one of your most powerful, and recognisable brand assets. Get it wrong, and it's game over mate.
